DDoS attacks

Slow-rate DDoS attacks are recent threats targeting next-generation networks such as IoT, 5G, etc. Unlike conventional high-rate DDoS, slow-rate DDoS have not been deeply studied, mainly due to the limited number of existing datasets with real traces.

This dataset contains one month of the binary activity of the 4060 urban IoT nodes. Each record in the dataset presents the node ID, the time stamp, the location of the IoT node in latitude and longitude, and also the binary activity of the IoT node. The main purpose of this dataset is to be used as part of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack research.

The dataset consists of samples of DDoS attacks. The samples were generated either by dedicated tools such as Loic, Hulk, Thorshammer, or combined from publicly available source such as from DDoS Evaluation Dataset (CIC-DDoS2019).

The network attacks are increasing both in frequency and intensity with the rapid growth of internet of things (IoT) devices. Recently, denial of service (DoS) and distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks are reported as the most frequent attacks in IoT networks. The traditional security solutions like firewalls, intrusion detection systems, etc., are unable to detect the complex DoS and DDoS attacks since most of them filter the normal and attack traffic based upon the static predefined rules.
