IEEE DataPort Data Competition Sponsorship Opportunities

IEEE DataPort offers a Data Competitions module that enables individuals and institutions to initiate and manage a data competition with ease. Data Competitions are a great way for businesses, institutions and research facilities to align with the global research community and help drive innovative solutions to problems. IEEE DataPort invites you to become a Data Competition Sponsor to help the global research community advance technology for the benefit of humanity.

What is an IEEE DataPort Data Competition?

A data competition is a time-limited data challenge hosted on IEEE DataPort in which a dataset (up to 2TB) is uploaded by the competition initiator along with a prompt and instructions on what the participants are to do with the data. Submittals are made directly in IEEE DataPort, submittals are evaluated, and winners are selected at the conclusion of the data competition.

Members of the global technical community, or, if the initiator desires, a specific set of participants, can register to join the data competition and provide their specific analyses, predictions or models based on the challenge presented.

Why Sponsor?

IEEE DataPort Data Competitions can typically receive 10,000s to 100,000s of views by IEEE DataPort users, giving your brand maximum reach to your target audience. Through a data competition sponsorship, your organization can:

  • Build Brand Recognition: Establish your organization as a leader of technology advancement in a specific area of research and/or in a particular geographic area.
  • Support Innovation: Support research in a specific area that aligns with your organization’s goals.
  • Advance Technology:  Support research that is aligned with IEEE’s goals of advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.

Sponsorship Requirements

Sponsors provide a minimum competition award of $5K to $25K. At least 75% of this money will go toward competitions prizes. IEEE DataPort makes it easy by managing distribution of prize money on the sponsor’s behalf.

Three Ways to Sponsor an IEEE DataPort Data Competition

Option 1: Support a Research Theme

Indicate a topic you are interested in sponsoring in the form below. Your organization will provide the sponsorship funding and IEEE will find the data, design the competition, and manage the competition

Option 2: Provide a Competition Objective or Problem You’re Looking to Solve

Provide a prompt or problem you are looking to solve in the form below and IEEE DataPort will solicit datasets and analysis to answer the prompt. IEEE DataPort will then create and manage competition and your organization will provide the sponsorship funding.

Option 3: Provide Dataset and Data Competition Design

In this option, your organization creates the competition and provides sponsorship funding, and IEEE DataPort’s global data community provides analysis on your research data to help solve a specific problem or provide insights.

Example Data Competitions

The Bengaluru Mobility Challenge

Co-sponsored by the Bengaluru Traffic Police, the Centre for Data for Public Good, and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), this data competition was created to help find a solution to Bengaluru’s traffic problem. The competitors were given traffic data and were asked to create prediction models using that data.

Hybrid Energy Forecasting and Trading Competition

Co-sponsored by Ørsted and rebase.energy, this data competition was created to forecast power production from a hybrid power plant that included a wind and solar farm.
