Abstract
India is a sub-continent that stretches from Ladakh in
the North to Kanyakumari in the South and from
Gujrat in the West to Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland
and Manipur in the East. India is currently the
seventh largest country by land covering an area of
approximately 32,87,263 kms.
India's Space Strengths:
India is the fourth country in the world to have
destroyed a satellite of its own. India built the
record-breaking space capability of launching 104
satellites on a single Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle
(PSL) in sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh in the year
2017 through Indian Space Research Organization
(ISRO). Through SROs Mangalyaan mission India
became the only country in the world to have
reached Mars in its first attempt.
The Vast Coastline:
All such space capabilities and power of India is
accomplished through its vast coastline. India has a
gross (mainland and island) coastline of
approximately 7500 kms. which benefits it for
launching rockets into the space. India has three
launching facilities as below.
Rocket Launching Facilities :
«Dr. Abdul Kalam Island in the Bhadrak district of
Indian state of Odisha
- Satish Dhawan Space Centre (Sriharikota) in the
Indian state of Andhra Pradesh
- Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthpuram
(Thumba) in the Indian state of Kerala.
