Doppler radar

On 7 September 2021, a NOAA WP-3D flew a mission through Hurricane Larry with the Imaging Wind and Rain Airborne Profiler (IWRAP) mounted on the aircraft. Horizontal wind vectors and atmospheric wind speeds were retrieved from the Ku-band radar measurements, and are presented with equivalent reflectivity estimates from IWRAP and other measurements and retrievals from collocated instruments (e.g., flight-level wind sensors and the Stepped Frequency Microwave Radiometer [SFMR]). The radar was configured to sample at two incidence angles: 31 degrees and 51 degrees.

The existing public datasets often suffer from small data volumes, leading to insufficient training processes that result in severe overfitting and poor generalization performance. To address this issue, a radar dataset named RadSet is constructed. During the data acquisition phase, frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar system IWR1843 Boost manufactured by Texas Instruments (TI) was used.

This dataset comprises radar-acquired signals from 15 subjects walking on a treadmill, aimed at exploring methodologies for non-contact vital sign detection under conditions of significant body movement. Each subject participated in four experimental sessions, where radar data were collected using two Continuous Wave (CW) radars positioned to capture signals from the front and back of the subject. The data includes both raw and demodulated signals synchronized with ground-truth data obtained from a BioPac system.
