Abstract
This dataset contains Wi-Fi sensing data using Channel State Information (CSI) for respiration rate measurements in a standard 3m x 3m room. The Wi-Fi CSI data was collected using the Wi-Fi module on the ESP32 Microcontroller units using the esp32-csi-tool. The Wi-Fi CSI data is accompanied by respiration belt data taken with the Wi-Fi measurements simultaneously using the Neulog NUL-236 respiration belt logger as ground truth. The dataset was collected from experiments designed to investigate the validity and repeatability of respiration rate measurements taken by Wi-Fi CSI-based non-contact sensor for older adults in care.
Experimental Set up
The experimental set up was placed in a 3m by 3m room, where the Wi-Fi transmitter-to-receiver direct line-of-sight distance is 3m crossing the middle of the room. The Wi-Fi transmitter and receiver were placed at a height of 0.85m from the floor level, while the subject is seated at about 0.9m perpendicularly away from the midpoint of the transmitter-to-receiver direct line-of-sight distance. The transmitter sampling rate is set to 120 packets per second. The Neulog NUL-236 respiration belt logger is worn by the subject around the waist to monitor the respiration rate simultaneously as a ground truth. The signal sampling is set at 100 samples per second. The subject is asked to follow the beats of a metronome set to double the intended respiration rate and is asked inhale and exhale with alternate beats.
Validity
For the validity set of experiments, respiration rates of 12 to 28 breaths per minute were taken as they correspond to the range of respiration rate for older adults. All readings are accompanied by ground truth measurement from the respiration belt and are 2 minutes in duration each.
Repeatability
As for the repeatability set of experiments, 30 readings of 14 BPM are taken as it is the subject’s most comfortable respiration rate. All readings are accompanied by ground truth measurement from the respiration belt and are 2 minutes in duration each.
Signal extraction
To extract the Wi-Fi CSI signal from the .CSV files, .ipynb python notebooks for each have been provided to extract the data from the files and visualise them.
