Abstract
Microsoft contains a productive tool known as MS Office but the inclusion of VBA Macros inside the MS Office for automation purposes makes it a way for attackers to perform malicious activities. To get an up-to-date dataset, the research regarding VBA macros is still working to find efficient ways to detect it. To perform analysis, the dataset is required which is publically harder to find. To overcome this issue, a dataset is created from VirusTotal, VirusShare, Zenodo, Malware Bazaar, Github and InQuest Labs. The dataset is classified into 7 major classes i.e., Downloader, Dropper, Trojan, Macro Malware, Obfuscated and Generic Macros based on behavior. The classes are further divided into subclasses based on signatures. This dataset contains a comprehensive collection of Microsoft Office files containing VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) macros. Unlike previous datasets, which lack precise classification, this dataset includes a granular taxonomy, allowing researchers to investigate the diversity and properties of VBA macros in depth.
The attached file contains a ZIP file which has two folders benign and malicious. Use any Virtual Machine to extract the zip file with the password "infected".
