Sapphire fiber can withstand temperatures of around 2000°C, but it is multimoded, giving poor precision sensors. We have demonstrated a single-mode sapphire fiber Bragg grating temperature sensor operating up to 1200°C. A single-mode sapphire fiber was formed by writing a depressed cladding waveguide along the length of a 100-µm diameter sapphire fiber using a femtosecond laser. A second-order Bragg grating sensor was inscribed within the waveguide, achieving a reflectivity of >90% and a narrow bandwidth of <0.5 nm.

Cemented total hip arthroplasty (THA) demonstrates superior survival rates compared to uncemented procedures. Nevertheless, most younger patients opt for uncemented THA, as removing well-fixed bone cement in the femur during revisions is complex, particularly the distal cement plug. This removal procedure often increases the risk of femoral fracture or perforation, haemorrhage and weakening bone due to poor drill control and positioning. Aim of this study was to design a novel drill guide to improve drill positioning.

Seven years of water consumption data, along with population data, were manually collected in collaboration with the local municipality office. This data was then combined with climatic data to model the proposed machine learning algorithm. The weather data was recorded for a period of 7 years using precise meteorological instruments installed in Islamabad at coordinates 33.64° N and 72.98° E, with an elevation of 500 meters above sea level.
