Abstract

The early detection of damaged (partially broken) outdoor insulators in primary distribution systems is of paramount importance for continuous electricity supply and public safety. In this dataset, we present different images and videos for computer vision-based research. The dataset comprises images and videos taken from different sources such as a Drone, a DSLR camera, and a mobile phone camera. A low to medium voltage porcelain insulators of Pin type of ANSI standard having porcelain thread Pin-hole of 1-inch diameter and also, low to medium voltage suspension insulator of ANSI Tongue and Clevis type. Both normal (intact) and damaged (broken) insulator images are presented in the dataset. Videos taken by a drone are presented of both types of in-service insulators. The dataset will be useful to researchers working on computer vision applications in Power system inspection, analysis, and maintenance.
