Abstract

Transparency, though a term that has been long-established in other older disciplines, remains an emerging concept that different stakeholders, including requirements engineers, developers, project managers, clients and end-users in information or software systems development must consider. In our study, we explore the transparency of software requirements specifications in terms of maintainability, communication and productivity.  Experimental participants were asked to respond to a questionnaire based on their review of software requirements specifications they were randomly assigned. Use case model-based and natural language-based requirements specifications were considered in our investigation. The data collected therefore emanated from respondents' responses to the questionnaire completed as part of the experiment.
