Abstract

In ultra-wideband optical transmission covering S, C, and L bands, the inter-channel stimulated Raman scattering (ISRS) leads to additional power loss in the S band. This loss can be compensated by either lumped amplifiers (Thulium-doped fibre amplifiers) or distributed Raman amplification (DRA). Ultra-wide band (UWB) straight-line transmission experiments were carried out using S+C+L band wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) signals in the presence of backward-pumped DRA or lumped TDFA amplification, and the transmission quality of the S-band signals with the different amplification schemes was investigated experimentally. This dataset includes experimental and simulation results of comparison between distributed and lumped amplification regimes for S+C+L-band WDM transmission.
