Abstract
Prolonged sitting in a single position adversely affects the spine and leads to chronic issues that require extended therapy for recovery. The principal motivation of this study is to ensure good posture, i.e. when a person's body is positioned correctly and supported by the appropriate level of muscle tension. It draws people's attention to the need for good sitting posture and health. Commercially available wearable sensors provide several advantages as the sensors can be embedded with the clothing. In order to enhance posture when sitting still for extended periods of time, a portable posture correction sensor has been developed in this work.</p><p>The sensor developed in this work is a textile based soft sensor which can response to pressure and flexural. Circuit board with microcontroller was also developed to acquire the data reading from the sensor. Multiple sensors were developed & their performance was evaluated based on the data reading they provided. Furthermore, the better performing sensor was compared with commercially available and widely recognized sensors and found out to be considerably similar in performance. The data reading provides the user, information regarding the posture condition. In this study, this was shown in a graphical representation.
