Abstract
Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) is heralded as a transformative force in the banking industry, yet its practical implementation remains a complex endeavour. This thematic analysis aims to critically assess the current state-of-the-art in DLT within the banking sector through an Enterprise Architecture (EA) lens. Three key dimensions are examined: the completeness and depth of existing academic research, the practical utility of cutting-edge DLT findings for banking enterprise implementation, and the extent to which regulatory-focused research provides actionable insights to stakeholders from industry and policymakers. The study finds that DLT adoption is fraught with challenges, existing regulatory frameworks are inadequate and current academic literature reveals that it is heavily skewed towards blockchain, neglecting other DLT forms. The study underscores the need for EA framework to guide DLT adoption, particularly for aligning with business goals, processes, technology, and regulatory compliance. Notably, the model and proposition are proposed to guide the underexplored research areas in banking enterprise architecture. The research contributes to the existing body of knowledge by offering an EA perspective on DLT´s implementation in banking, with implications for both practitioners, academics, and policymakers.
This dataset contains the qualitative data and analysis of a thematic study on Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) in the banking sector. The data consists of 37 peer-reviewed articles on DLT and banking. The data was coded and analyzed using Nvivo software, following a deductive and inductive approach. The analysis reveals the current state-of-the-art, challenges, and opportunities of DLT adoption in banking, from an Enterprise Architecture (EA) perspective. The dataset also includes the proposed EA model and proposition for DLT implementation in banking, as well as the recommendations for future research and practice.
