Abstract

We have synthesized the latest developments over the past two decades using a bibliometric approach, drawing data from the Web of Science Core Collection database from January 2000 to May 2023. Both VOSviewer and CiteSpace were employed to examine journals, authors, institutions, and countries' contributions. The United States, China, and the United Kingdom lead in terms of research output. The Journal of Air Transport Management had the highest publication count. Key contributing institutions include MIT, NASA, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Delft University of Technology. Moreover, 14 clusters were formed, highlighting four major research themes: Aircraft Sequencing, Urban Air Mobility, Aircraft Trajectory Prediction, and Air Traffic Control System. These insights offer a comprehensive understanding of research directions and provide invaluable guidance for future air traffic research.

Instructions:

The search query was configured as TS="air traffic". The retrieval adhered to Boolean operators and the "Exact Search" option was selected to enhance the efficacy of the literature retrieval. Additionally, the use of double quotes in the search query signifies a phrase search, effectively filtering out unrelated documents that merely contain the keywords "air" or "traffic".
The refined methodology includes the following:(1) Database: WoS Core Collection;(2) Language: English;(3) Time Span: January 2000 to May 2023; and (4) Index: Science Citation Index (SCI) - Expanded and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI).
Finally, 4,432 publications were retrieved. Files in the .tex format was exported for further processing. Each literature record encompassed details. such as title, authors, keywords, abstract, year of publication, affiliations, citations, and other pertinent information.
