Dataset Upload Content

The dataset upload contest is designed to encourage authors and researchers to bring their research to the forefront of the global technical community through IEEE DataPort. Anyone who uploads a dataset to IEEE DataPort between October 1, 2020 at 12:00am EDT and November 30, 2020 at 11:59pm EST, will also have the opportunity to enter this contest for a chance to win prizes for their dataset uploads.

When uploading a Standard or Open Access datasets to IEEE DataPort during this time period, users will be prompted to review and agree to the Official Rules of the contest. That’s all you need to do to enter! 

Contest Guidelines

Please read the full Official Rules before proceeding.

  • Entrants must upload a dataset to IEEE DataPort at, datasets uploaded as data competitions are not eligible for the contest
  • Any dataset format may be used, including but not limited to .csv, .mat, .xlsx, .xls, .txt, xml, pnml, .zip, .gzip, .png, and .jpg
  • Entries must include complete metadata, including a full abstract, custom image, detailed instructions, and dataset files
  • Dataset files should either be related to scholarly research (a published or planned paper) or provide value to the research community
  • Individuals may submit multiple datasets, each serving as a distinct entry.
  • Previous dataset upload contest winners are not eligible to win 

How to Win

A panel of IEEE volunteers will select the top three datasets based on the number of views each dataset receives by the end of the contest period, the quality of the metadata, and the value to the technical community. Any submissions without complete metadata and dataset files are not eligible to win. IEEE reserves the right to unpublish any incomplete datasets or entries that are not deemed valuable to the research community.
