The role of AI in Sustainable Agriculture

Abstract

The IEEE Hackathon on AI for Sustainable Agriculture is an integral part of the IEEE Africa Entrepreneurship Summit 2025, scheduled for 22nd-23rd May at the Crown Conference Hall in Kigali, Rwanda. This hackathon aims to foster innovation and collaboration among developers, researchers, and entrepreneurs to tackle pressing challenges in sustainable agriculture using artificial intelligence (AI). By leveraging AI, participants will create impactful solutions that address food security, resource efficiency, climate resilience, and farmer empowerment across Africa.

Instructions

Objective: Develop AI-driven solutions for sustainable agriculture challenges.
Focus Areas: Precision farming, climate resilience, crop monitoring, pest management, and yield prediction.
Eligibility: Open to students, researchers, developers, entrepreneurs, and professionals.
Registration: Sign up via IEEE DataPort. Teams of up to 5 or individual participants allowed.
Datasets: Access curated agricultural datasets on IEEE DataPort.
Submission Requirements:

Solution code.
Documentation.
Demo video.

Evaluation Criteria: Innovation, impact, feasibility, technical excellence, and presentation quality.
Key Dates:

Registration opens: Feb 1, 2025
Submission deadline: May 10, 2025
Final presentations: 22nd-23rd May 2025 (at the Summit).
