What is CRAWDAD?

CRAWDAD was established in 2004 at Dartmouth College as a Community Resource for Archiving Wireless Data.  It has grown to be a wireless network data resource for the research community.  Dartmouth worked with research community leaders to ensure that the archive met the needs of the community.

When did CRAWDAD move to IEEE DataPort?

As of 2022, IEEE DataPort hosts the CRAWDAD collection and provides the ability to the research community to add new datasets to the collection. This approach allows CRAWDAD to remain a strong source of wireless trace data for the research community. The IEEE DataPort platform provides additional capabilities to CRAWDAD contributors, such as citation tracking, dataset file management through AWS, and messaging with other platform users. IEEE DataPort is committed to storing and hosting the collection for long-term accessibility and usability. 

Where can I find CRAWDAD datasets on IEEE DataPort?

CRAWDAD datasets can be found under the CRAWDAD collection page as well by browsing and searching for datasets on IEEE DataPort.

How do I submit a new CRAWDAD dataset going forward?

The research community is encouraged to add new datasets to the CRAWDAD dataset collection by submitting a dataset and indicating your intention to include the dataset in the CRAWDAD collection.  All CRAWDAD datasets will be Open Access after approval.

If I submitted a CRAWDAD dataset in the past, will it be available on IEEE DataPort?

Yes. All CRAWDAD datasets are now hosted as Open Access datasets on IEEE DataPort. Original contributors are listed for each dataset. 

Can anyone use the CRAWDAD datasets? 

All IEEE DataPort users can access and use the published CRAWDAD datasets. If you do not already have an IEEE DataPort account, you can make a free account here. All CRAWDAD datasets have a CC-BY license, whether part of the initial migration or later added to the collection, so anyone who uses the data will be expected to properly cite the dataset in their research.
